Despite Iowa's clear choice to unify rules across its 99 counties in regards to the rights of qualified citizens to carry concealed firearms, some communities and even those meant to protect and serve are attempting to limit the rights of gun owners.
The latest of these attempts comes from Marion, IA Police Chief Harry Daugherty who sent out approximately 600 letters to local businesses bemoaning the loss of law enforcements ability to refuse Iowans their right to carry. Under the new law which took effect Jan. 1st, Iowa Sheriff's can no longer deny a conceal and carry permit to an otherwise qualified applicant whereas before they could arbitrarily deny applicants.
Included with the letter, Daugherty included "No Guns Allowed" stickers along with his urging that business owners place the stickers on their front doors to "make both (business and police) our jobs easier."
